Biography
Nicholas Joseph LaLota is a U.S. Representative for New York's 1st Congressional District, serving since January 2023. A Navy veteran, LaLota served on active duty and in the Navy Reserve, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He earned his B.A. from the University of Albany and his J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law. Before Congress, he served as Commissioner of the Suffolk County Board of Elections and as Chief of Staff to Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. In Congress, he sits on the powerful Appropriations Committee and the Small Business Committee. He has focused on lowering costs for Long Island families, supporting veterans, and securing federal funding for local priorities including beach nourishment, water quality improvements, and transportation infrastructure in eastern Suffolk County.
